Viet P. Nguyen, M.P.P.

Vice President – Development, Asia Pacific

Viet Nguyen is vice president for development and chief representative for Operation Smile Asia Pacific and Vietnam since 2015. He has 27 years of experience with Operation Smile in different positions and capacities, including regional development director for Vietnam from 2012 to 2015. 

In his career, he has helped develop extensive programs for Operation Smile, recruited in-country volunteer base, managed medical volunteer engagement along with sustainable programs and recently provided critical leadership in designing appropriate fundraising strategies for local and international communities. 

Nguyen’s key areas of interest are in understanding the relationship between private and public sectors in developing countries to better promote capacity building and advocacy through initiatives of fundraising and program development. By developing these activities, Nguyen generates great values both in kind and financial support to support Operation Smile’s activities in Vietnam and around the Asia Pacific region. 

In addition to the abilities of mobilizing resources, Nguyen is a regular contributor to the growth of the community by offering teaching and sharing experience with local and international associations and civic groups. Currently, he is serving as vice president for Ronald McDonald House of Charities (RHMC) Vietnam Foundation, a long-time member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AMCHAM) as well as sitting on the board of many in-country student groups. 

Nguyen earned his Master of Public Policy from the Fulbright University Vietnam and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Foreign Trade University. He lives in Vietnam with his family and travels around the world to promote the noble work of the organization that he has been devoting his time to for close to three decades.
