As the country prepares to celebrate National Nurses Week, May 6-12, Highfield is gearing up for another medical mission. “I’m headed to Peru this month. I’ll be training a clinical coordinator. It’s important we share what we know and do good for others whether it’s across the street or across the world, said Highfield. I plan on volunteering until I can’t walk or talk,” she jokingly added.

The 21-year-old law student has volunteered with Operation Smile student programs since 2016. She recently traveled to Cebu, Philippines for her second medical mission with Operation Smile.

Today the Vietnam Ministry of Health (MoH) conducts a Conference on implementing Guidelines for Quality Standards for Safe Surgery chaired by the Vice Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Tien. As a partner of the MoH of Vietnam, Operation Smile representatives will be on hand to participate in the Conference that marks a significant achievement in a multi-year collaboration.
