The Villa Walsh Academy
The Villa Walsh Academy Operation Smile powder-puff football game marked Villa's very first fundraiser, made possible through the tireless efforts of the club members. Whether by posters around school, donations to the food table, or working at the face paint station, Villa's very own worked together to raise a staggering sum of money of $1,750 that will go directly to Operation Smile.
Led by co-presidents Paige Gesicki, Elise Smith and Shannon Kelly the organization that went into the orchestration of the successful game was wholly remarkable, but the support that emanated from the entire student body was even greater. Countless enthusiastic souls braved the cold weather to show their support for the Operation Smile cause and to enjoy some quality football as a team of juniors challenged a team of seniors. In a game filled with back to back touchdowns, dramatic interceptions and, at times, utter chaos, both teams gave a laudable effort but came to a stalemated tie at the end of regulation time.
"The game was really an amazing display of spirit," recalled Joanna Villacorta, a senior who took part in the football game. "The support that Operation Smile received from the players and the supporters was phenomenal. I think we really made a sizable donation to Operation Smile and in doing so, changed some lives forever."
The Operation Smile Student Association has no intention of slowing down in their pursuit of helping children. In fact, the next events are already in the works. As demonstrated by a simple game of flag football, the goals of Operation Smile fit nicely with the signature Villa Walsh spirit- the spirit of helping others, of supporting fellow students, of making a positive difference in any way possible. For this reason, it is clear that Villa Walsh will be a key supporter of this organization's mission for years to come.
