The organization’s Global Standards of Care ensures every patient treated by Operation Smile benefits from the same sophisticated equipment, procedures and highly trained, credentialed medical volunteers, no matter where they receive treatment.

Medical volunteers in the United States and internationally are credentialed following Operation Smile standards to guarantee excellence in cleft care. Operation Smile was the first cleft organization to support the World Health Organization’s Safe Surgery Saves Lives initiative, which includes the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist designed to improve the safety of surgical care throughout the world. In addition, state-of-the-art equipment and biomedical training is provided to partner countries to ensure all children are treated with the same quality of technology.
