Hispanic business leaders, musicians, celebrities and the philanthropically-minded elite have joined together to support Operation Smile, a worldwide children’s medical charity, by hosting the 1st Annual Latino Smile Benefit.

Riordan, Roselyn Sanchez and Eric Winter at its 8th Annual Smile Gala, October 2, 2009, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. A special presentation was made in honor of the Simpson family, Jessica, Ashlee, Tina and Joe Simpson, for their support of Operation Smile. Operation Smile, a worldwide children’s medical charity, awarded the Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, with its distinguished Universal Smile Award. The award was presented in recognition of Mr. Gogoi’s dedication and leadership in establishing a landmark public private partnership to create the first cleft-free state in India.
TwestivalSF, the local division of the global Twestival event, will host special guests and social media luminaries to raise funds for the event’s official charity, Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a worldwide children’s medical charity that repairs cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities for children around the world. During TwestivalSF, Twitter participants will gather in over 200 cities around the world to raise money for a charity of their choice San Francisco has chosen Operation Smile as the benefit charity of TwestivalSF with the goal of raising donations to create 140 smiles. Last year, Twestival raised over $250,000.

Association Foundation (AMAF) in Chicago, IL, Eric Overman, Operation Smile Director of Online Communities and Social Media, received the prestigious Nonprofit Marketer of the Year Award. This award honors extraordinary leadership and achievement in the field of nonprofit marketing.
Operation Smile is proud to have one of the world’s most dedicated volunteer networks — more than 4,000 medical and non-medical volunteers ready to share their time and talent to help children. In celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 19-25), Operation Smile will hold a Volunteer Awards Ceremony and reception to honor seven exceptional volunteers with the following awards: Lifetime Volunteer Achievement Award, The U.S. Care Network Award, The Donna Poe-Davis Nursing Award of Excellence, and The Be Someone Student Programs Award. Operation Smile Co-Founders Dr. Bill and Kathy Magee will present the awards to these dedicated volunteers.
Operation Smile, a worldwide children’s medical charity that provides free surgery to children in developing countries born with facial deformities, will join the United States Navy’s hospital ship, USNS Comfort, during its summer 2009 humanitarian assistance deployment – Continuing Promise. The USNS Comfort mission will provide humanitarian services to nine sites in seven countries in Latin America and the Caribbean during a 120-day deployment. These services will include basic surgeries, nursing educational opportunities, public health interventions, veterinary services, and basic infrastructure support and construction. USNS Comfort will work with Operation Smile along with other joint, inter-agency, international and non-governmental organization partners.
Operación Sonrisa, organización mundial de beneficencia que provee cirugías gratis a niños que nacen con malformaciones faciales en países sub-desarrollados, se unirá al Hospital-Buque Naval de los Estados Unidos, el USNS Comfort, durante su despliegue de asistencia humanitaria verano 2009, “Continuando Promesa.” La misión del USNS Comfort proveerá ayuda humanitaria en nueve sitios de siete países en Latinoamérica y el Caribe durante su despliegue de 120 días. Sus servicios incluirán cirugías básicas, oportunidades de educación en enfermería, intervenciones en salud pública, servicios de veterinaria, y apoyo básico de infraestructura y construcción. El USNS Comfort trabajara con Operación Sonrisa en conjunto con otras inter-agencias internacionales, y organizaciones asociadas no-gubernamentales.
