Norfolk, Virginia –

This holiday season, Operation Smile is joining #GivingTuesday™ on Tuesday November 27, 2012 to help transform the giving season. Operation Smile is partnering with other charities, families, businesses and individuals who are coming together to launch #GivingTuesday™, the giving season’s opening day, to create ways to give more, give better and give smarter.

For children in developing countries who are born with a facial deformity, the greatest gift is the joy of a new smile – and a new life. Operation Smile’s Giving Catalog features holiday gifts that change the lives of children in need. Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft. One in 10 will die before their first birthday. With the generous volunteers and supporters, Operation Smile has provided more than 3.5 million healthcare evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children worldwide. Your gift this holiday season can help us reach even more children.

This year, supporters can holiday shop on their favorite social networking site with Operation Smile’s Facebook Giving Catalog – a collection of gifts that start as low as $10, including special baby bottles and speech therapy supplies. Create a wish list of items like the “prepare and operate” bundle, where friends can purchase bubble gum-scented anesthesia masks, hospital gowns, and operating room supplies in your honor. The catalog also offers “group giving, where friends can work together toward a shared goal to raise funds for a surgery to heal the smile of a child.

“ZACHARY, LUKE AND GRIFFIN” TEDDY BEARS: www.operationsmile.org/bears

Lisa Lori is a mother of three boys who were all born with facial paralysis. After each of her boys endured years of surgeries to receive their own smiles, she wanted to give back to other children in need. In honor of her sons, Lisa Lori helped to design a special teddy bear collection to comfort Operation Smile’s patients who are undergoing surgery. Those who donate $240 for a surgery will receive this exclusive bear from Operation Smile and another bear will be donated to an Operation Smile patient on a medical mission.
