Charles Seliger, an artist whose paintings made him one of the most distinctive artists of the first-generation Abstract Expressionists, died from a stroke in Manhattan on Oct. 1. As a result of their heartfelt connection with Operation Smile, the Seliger’s have decided to list Operation Smile as the charity of benefit for the memorial held Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. at the New York Historical Society in New York City.

Rachel Moore, Development and Operations Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, will be interviewed by Sirius 159/XM 117 on Wednesday, November 18, at 8:20 p.m. EST. Moore will talk about Operation Smile’s Online Auction, hosted by Operation Smile’s Carolinas Chapters.

Hong Kong-born actor and martial artist Jackie Chan arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, on November 4 to participate in Operation Smile Vietnam's 20th Anniversary celebration, “A Journey of Miracles.” Chan, who is an Ambassador for Operation Smile, spent the day at Hanoi’s Vietnam-Cuba Hospital visiting children with cleft lips and cleft palates.

Operation Smile, a worldwide children’s medical charity, honored Stephen Berman of JAKKS Pacific, the Honorable Richard J. Riordan, Roselyn Sanchez and Eric Winter at its 8th Annual Smile Gala, October 2, 2009, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. A special presentation was made in honor of the Simpson family, Jessica, Ashlee, Tina and Joe Simpson, for their support of Operation Smile.

Operation Smile is happy to be a beneficiary of Hasbro's Project Zambi Celebrity Auction. Hasbro's Project Zambi is a global cause initiative dedicated to raising awareness of the estimated 15 million children who have lost parents and relatives to the AIDS epidemic in Africa and around the world and supporting programs that are caring for them.

After seeing a commercial about Operation Smile, soon-to-be nine-year old Liam Safran decided to do something to help. So he's declared that instead of presents for his upcoming birthday, he'd rather gifts come as donations to the cause which fixes cleft palates and more.

In August, Operation Smile unveiled its new online youth community to over 400 student leaders gathered at the International Leadership Conference (ISLC). This new community, called OS Central, is a place for students to connect with friends and other students from around the world who are committed to the same cause.

Operation Smile, a worldwide children’s medical charity, hosted a tribute to Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee and dedicated humanitarian Bruce Smith at a gala event in his honor on Friday, September 25, 2009, in Virginia Beach, VA. The evening recognized Mr. Smith’s lifetime contributions as an athlete, businessman, volunteer and community leader.
