Fes, Morocco: March 8 - 18, 2006

An Operation Smile international team of 44 medical and non-medical volunteers conducted a medical mission for the first time in the city of Fes. The team, made up of plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, a pediatrician, a dentist, speech pathologist and child life therapist, worked together at Omar Drissi Batha Hospital to change the lives of children and young adults suffering with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities. Volunteers from Canada, Ireland, Italy, the Philippines, and the United States worked with their Moroccan counterparts to provide free medical evaluations to 380 children and young adults and 146 of those patients received free reconstructive surgery.
