An international team of more than 50 medical and non-medical Operation Smile volunteers will be working in Antsirabe for the second medical mission to Madagascar to change the lives of children who are suffering with facial deformities.
Plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, a pediatrician, a pediatric intensivist, speech therapist, child life therapist and others will be working together in at Centre Hospitalier De Reference Regionale D' Antsirabe, providing free physical examinations and free reconstructive surgeries to children and young adults who want the chance at a normal life. The Operation Smile international mission team includes volunteers from Canada, Holland, Italy, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States, who will be working side-by-side with local Madagascarian medical volunteers.
Since 2007, Operation Smile medical volunteers have provided 259 Madagascarian children and young adults with free physical evaluations and more than 136 have received life-changing surgery during international medical missions.
