Jempson

Jempson after his cleft lip surgery.

Due to extreme poverty, Jempson never had any chance of getting surgery for the cleft lip he was born with.

He lived with his facial deformity for 10 years. When the chance finally came for him to get a free surgery through Operation Smile, he traveled 6 hours to the mission site in Hinche.

But this was Operation Smile’s first medical mission to Haiti, and the turnout was much greater than could be accommodated. Jempson feared he’d have to return home with the same disfigured mouth.

Then the medical team was able to equip another operating table, and Jempson was chosen. He got the smile he’d dreamed of. Now, Jempson has a chance to lead a happy and productive life.
